Who we serve

Built for
owner-operators.

We work with specific kinds of businesses, in specific stages, with specific problems. Here's who we fit best.

By business profile

The shape of the business matters.

  • Owner-operated LLC, S-Corp, or C-Corp
  • $500K–$10M in annual revenue
  • Texas-headquartered or Texas-operations
  • 5–100 employees or contractors
  • Profitable or near-profitable (we're not a turnaround firm)
By industry

Operationally complex businesses.

  • Fleet and transportation

Vehicle-sharing, rental operations, last-mile logistics, specialty transport.

  • Construction

    Residential and light commercial trades.

  • Multi-unit services

Home services, personal services, specialty retail with multiple locations.

  • Specialty distribution

    Niche product distribution, regional wholesale.

  • Light manufacturing

    Small-batch and custom manufacturing.

Other sectors work too, if the pattern fits: owner-operator, operationally complex, revenue-generating, in the target size band.

By owner situation

Three common situations.

Situation 1

The Overloaded Operator

You're doing the 69 workdays of non-core work every year. You want to step back from execution without selling.

→ Portfolio Management fits.
An orderly office at dawn with neatly labeled binders
Situation 2

The Pre-Transition Owner

You're three to five years from a sale, retirement, or generational succession. You need the business to run without you so it's actually sellable at a fair multiple.

→ Portfolio Management fits.

Situation 3

The Growth Owner

You're growing through the sub-$10M band and the back office can't keep up. Cadence is breaking. Financial visibility is getting worse, not better.

→ Project engagements across one or more pillars fit well.
The Texas small-business context

two realities.

Texas is the second-largest small-business state in the country. Between 2017 and 2022, the number of Texas small businesses grew 24% and small-business revenue grew 54.5%. Austin was named the best U.S. city to start a business in 2025.

At the same time, 69% of Texas small-business leaders report managing non-core work every week and 56% report burnout. Nearly half of U.S. small-business owners are 55 or older, and only 54% have a succession plan. The wave of owner transitions expected over the coming decade will affect an estimated $10 trillion in private business assets.

Be honest with us

Who we're probably not a fit for.

  • Solo consultants or nonemployer businesses — you're below our target size
  • Pre-revenue startups — we're not an incubator
  • Businesses needing licensed legal, tax, or investment-advisory services — we refer those out
  • Owners looking to sell equity to us — we don't buy businesses
  • Distressed or turnaround situations — that's a different practice
FAQ

Frequently asked

  • We're just outside Texas. Will you still talk to us?
Yes. The home base is Austin and our governing jurisdiction is Texas, but we take adjacent work when the fit is right.
  • We're below $500K in revenue. What do you recommend?
Usually a fractional specialist for the specific pillar that's broken. We're happy to suggest one at an intro call.
  • We're over $10M in revenue. Are we too big?
Not necessarily. The pricing model changes above $10M; let's have a conversation.
  • We're pre-revenue. Can we engage?
Not through Portfolio Management. For early-stage companies, we recommend an incubator, a fractional operator, or an in-house hire first.
